Flight Centre Moves Into Cycling

Travel agency company, Flight Centre Ltd, has secured exclusive Australian wholesale distribution rights for Merida and Indi Bike brands. They have permanent rights for Indi and rights for Merida for 3 years commencing in July. Flight Centre Merger and Acquisitions Manager, David Smith, said

“The acquisition gave the company a real opportunity to tap into a large market.” “This investment represents a very small but exciting opportunity for Flight Centre to broaden its traditional revenue base into a sector that continues to experience strong growth,” Mr. Smith said.

Flight Centre is also in discussions with Gainsdale Pty Ltd about a joint venture involving the 99 Bikes retail chain which is operated by Matt Turner, the son of Flight Centre founder and MD, Graham Turner. Graham Turner, himself a keen cyclist currently holds an interest in Gainsdale, so will remain at arm’s length in these discussions.
